Watching my students grow as well-rounded musicians and as members of their local artistic communities is immensely rewarding and motivates my efforts to become a better educator. I encourage and challenge my students to channel the spirit of the Haenye and dive deep to ignite their passion for music. Native to my home of Jeju, South Korea, Haenyeo are elderly women who dive into the Korean modern equipment, these Korean mermaids symbolize strength and determination with each vulnerable and enthusiasm which I utilize in my teaching and impart in my students.
